A compact, mounding plant celebrated for its glossy, waxy foliage and near-continuous blooms from late spring until the first frost. Though technically tender perennials, they are most commonly grown as annuals in temperate climates or as low-maintenance houseplants. They are notably resilient, tolerating a range of light conditions and short periods of drought due to their succulent-like stems and leaves.

They thrive in everything from full sun to partial shade. Bronze-leaved varieties generally tolerate direct sun better than green-leaved ones. Indoors, they prefer bright, indirect light near a window.

Keep the soil consistently moist but never soggy. Allow the top inch of soil to dry out before watering again to prevent root rot.

Feed with a balanced, water-soluble fertiliser every 4–6 weeks during the active growing.
