The Cox's Orange Pippin (often simply "Cox") is widely celebrated as the finest English dessert apple. First grown in Buckinghamshire in the early 19th century, it is famous for its complex, aromatic flavour with hints of pear, melon, mango, and cherry.
Flavour Profile: A "sprightly subacid" balance of sweetness and acidity with a rich, nutty aroma.
Appearance: Medium-sized fruit with an orange-red flush and stripes over a golden-yellow base.
Harvest & Storage: Best picked in September or October. While it is a premier eating apple, it has a short storage life, typically lasting only a few weeks to a month.
Usage: Excellent for eating fresh, juicing, or using in desserts like tarts and Tarte Tatin.
