Commonly known as the Rose of Sharon, is a hardy, deciduous shrub celebrated for its large, double lilac-pink or purple flowers with dark red throats. It is a versatile plant that provides late-summer colour, blooming profusely from July through October.
Produces "candy-floss" pink or lilac-purple double blooms, often up to 12cm across.
Features dark green, maple-like leaves with deeply toothed edges. This variety is famously slow to leaf out in spring, often appearing dormant until early summer.
A compact, upright shrub that typically reaches a height of 1.5–3 metres with a similar spread. It is relatively slow-growing, adding about 15–30 cm of height per year.
Prefers full sun in a warm, sheltered spot. While it can tolerate light shade, too much shade will result in fewer flowers.
If needed, prune in early spring to maintain shape and encourage new flowering wood.
Needs regular watering during its first year to establish roots; once established, it is remarkably drought-tolerant.
