11cm Clematis - 'Wesselton' Macropetela
£4.99
Currently approx 30cm tall.
Wesselton’ is a very unusual and noteworthy variety. Buds emerge early spring. Flowers nodding and bell shaped, with the outer petals of the flowers soft lilac blue and whiter tones at the base, with white staminodes in the centre. Produces silvery seed heads in the summer. A beautiful plant with an early season display.
The best trellis is one with thin supports, such as wire, mesh, or narrow wooden laths, because this plant climbs by wrapping its leaf petioles around structures. Avigorous spring-bloomer eith reach to 2.5–3 metres. Plant the base 30–45cm away from the wall or trellis to give the roots space. Always shade the roots with mulch or low-growing plants.
In early spring, guide the stems horizontally across the bottom of the trellis before letting them grow upwards. This "zigzagging" technique encourages more blooms from the base to the top.
No heavy pruning, needed pruning to tidy up overlong shoots immediately after it finishes flowering.
